My name is Damian Bogunowicz. I’m a machine learning engineer by day and a curious tinkerer and lifelong learner by night. I dream of a bold future where autonomous robots work hand in hand with humans.
After hours, I am a long-distance runner, jazz and hip-hop head, and last but not least, a self-proclaimed food aficionado.
I've been blogging for a while now, as dtransposed. I've been writing mostly about different flavors of machine learning, financial markets, and data science. Some of my writeups gained substantial traction on Hacker News.
Complementary to my writing, I am (very infrequently) creating educational content on youtube. I like when some people find my videos helpful, e.g. live coding of a diffusion model from scratch.
I enjoy learning languages and currently speak English, Polish, German, and most recently, Spanish.
Past experiences
- Currently working in JetBrains on LLM inference, allowing coding models to run fast for hundreds of thousands of JetBrains users. I was a core engineer behind the NES feature.
- Developed and taught a comprehensive Machine Learning in Computer Vision course for LABA (20+ students enrolled, top satisfaction ratings), covering 40 hours of lectures and 14 homework assignments, culminating in a final project.
- Worked on the compression of LMMs at Neural Magic.
- Joined the 25 Guns Task Force at Tesla, where we built Gigafactory, a machine that builds a machine. Reported directly to Elon.
- Taught a physical robot how to complete assembly tasks at Arrival. Co-authored a paper and published a tutorial describing my research.
- Interned at Argo AI, worked on the prediction of the intent of the other road users.
- Graduated from Technical University of Munich with a Master's degree in Robotics, Cognition and Intelligence. I was mostly focused on Deep Reinforcement Learning and Computer Vision.
